Johnny Depp requested a private room at the GQ Awards, because he didn't want to mix with the other guests.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star was at the London ceremony to hand the Writer of the Year gong to his long-time hero, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.

A source told The Sun: "Johnny likes his privacy and wanted to watch the ceremony in peace. He had all his home comforts surrounding him and just sat back and took it all in. The organisers weren't fussed by his demands. As far as they were concerned, Johnny would have got anything he asked for."

Depp voiced the audio version of Richards' autobiography, Life, and the two chatted all night after the ceremony ended.

Another guest who wanted to grab a word with Richards was Stephen Fry - who was rebuffed after being confused for British Prime Minister David Cameron.

On writing his autobiography, Life: "Memory lane isn't particularly my avenue. I'm always looking forward. Suddenly you're pulled up short: 'Oh, I'll do the book.' Sure, great. Then you realize what it entails." (Rolling Stone, 2010)
