Rolling Stones Forced To Cut Saucy Songs From Chinese Show Setlist
by WENNThe Rolling Stones were forced to drop the hits Brown Sugar and Honky Tonk Woman from their set list during a show in China on Wednesday night (12Mar14) after censors insisted the tracks were too naughty.
The
rockers returned to China for the first time since their debut there in
2006 when they performed at the Shanghai Mercedes-Benz Arena with a set
that had to be approved by government officials.
Frontman Mick Jagger told fans that Honky Tonk Women had been "vetoed" by the authorities, and speaking before the concert, he confirmed that he and his bandmates had to submit the lyrics to the songs they had planned to perform in Shanghai to censorship chiefs - as is customary for visiting western acts.
They replaced the two axed songs with 1971 tune Dead Flowers and Street Fighting Man, which was chosen as a fan favourite through social media channels.
The band's 14 On Fire tour continues in Singapore on Saturday (15Mar14).
