Gimme shelter: Keith Richards buys Greenwich Village co-op

by Zoe Rosenberg/ Zachary KussinYou can’t always get what you want — but if you’re Keith Richards, you can. The Rolling Stones guitarist, along with bombshell wife Patti Hansen, bought a co-op home at 1 Fifth Avenue for $10.5 million, according to city records filed today. The couple snatched up unit 18A, which was listed as a penthouse duplex.
The home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, and comes as a new combination of three apartments, according to the listing. Floor plans show three terraces on the lower level; the listing details a collection of custom features including white lacquer millwork, marble slab bathrooms and a Sonos sound system throughout.
Nikki Field of Sotheby’s International Realty had the listing. A Sotheby’s spokesperson did not immediately respond to a message seeking confirmation and comment.
The home, located just shy of Washington Square Park North, hit the market in December 2012 for $15 million, according to the listing history on StreetEasy. The spread underwent several price chops; its most recent asking price was $11 million.
Edward and Reka Darida Schmidt are listed as the sellers. They could not immediately be identified or reached for comment. Richards and Hansen could not be immediately reached.
Good times seem to be rolling for the couple. Aside from posh new digs, Richards and Hansen welcomed their newest grandchild early last month: a boy named Otto Reed, according to previous reports.
