Rod Stewart has revealed that his former Faces band mate Ronnie Wood used suppositories to get high on cocaine after Wood nearly destroyed his nasal septum from his cocaine addiction. Stewart made the revelation in an "Access Hollywood" interview that aired on October 24, 2012. He has been promoting his 2012 memoir, "Rod: The Autobiography,"
Stewart and Wood were in the Faces from 1969 to 1975. Wood officially joined the Rolling Stones in the mid-1970s, shortly after the Faces disbanded.
Stewart commented to "Access Hollywood" about the cocaine damage that Wood caused to his nasal septum: "It scared Ronnie. Yeah, it did. So we found another method of taking the drug ... We'd put it a little pill, like a French do, and put it in a suppository. We did that for a little while." Stewart then laughed at the memory.
As for his own drug use, Stewart said, "I was never an addict. I was never in rehab. It never affected my family or relationships. I was just a social user."
And even though Stewart has a longtime reputation for being a playboy, Stewart denied that he has had thousands or even hundreds of sexual partners. "People try and say that I've had thousands of girls. I haven't! I've probably had 50 or 60."
As for Wood's problems with substance abuse, Wood has been very open about being a recovering drug addict and alcoholic. Wood has talked about it in many interviews, and he detailed his addictions in his 2007 memoir, "Ronnie." Wood has been in rehab several times. His most recent rehab stint was in early 2010, and he says that he's been clean and sober ever since.
A revamped Faces lineup that featured original members Wood, Ian McLagan (keyboards) and Kenney Jones (drums) and new members Mick Hucknall (lead vocals) and Glen Matlock (bass) toured in 2010 and 2011. Stewart declined to participate in these Faces reunion tours, although he occasionally did one-off Faces reunion performances in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Faces were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. The day before the ceremony, Stewart cancelled his announced appearance at the show, where he had been scheduled to do a reunion performance with the Faces. Stewart said he had to cancel because he was sick with the flu and was under "doctor's orders" not to travel by plane. Hucknall stepped in to sing lead vocals for the Faces' performance at the show.
Wood and Stewart have remained friendly with each other, and Wood has sometimes been a guest performer at Stewart's concerts, where the two former band mates usually end up performing Faces songs.
