At 50, Rolling Stones keep rolling along...

Kicking off an expectedly busy 50th anniversary, the Rolling Stones dropped a new song, its first in seven years, on Wednesday.

Good news for fans of the aged rock and rollers — it’s pretty darn good. Recorded in France earlier this year, “Doom and Gloom” is one of two new compositions set to appear on the new collection “GRRR! Greatest Hits,” due out Nov. 13.

The song is an uptempo rocker, with guitarist Keith Richards’ delivering a riff that sounds like he pulled it out of a time capsule from the late 1970s. Mick Jagger boasts some environmentally charged lyrics about fracking and even, um, zombies … but it’s a catchy tune nonetheless, and his voice is in fine form as well.

Up next for the creaky stalwarts is a pair of shows in New York toward the end of the year that have been all but confirmed, and the buzz is building about some additional dates. There’s also a new documentary, “Crossfire Hurricane,” scheduled to air Nov. 15 on HBO. Naysayers be warned — these guys ain’t dead yet.
