Joss Stone: Jagger thinks I ignore him
The British songstress is part of new group SuperHeavy with Mick, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley and A.R. Rahman.
Joss formed a great rapport with the whole band while recording their eclectic 12-track album, and particularly bonded with the Rolling Stones legend. Mick was always on hand to provide words of wisdom, but got impatient when he thought Jess wasn’t taking it on board.
"Yeah, he makes me laugh," she told the LA Times.
"The great thing about Mick is that he's got so much knowledge, and he's always sharing. And I'm always listening. Whenever he thinks I'm not, I am, and I take it all on board."
Mick was also quick to showcase his musical knowledge in other areas. The 68-year-old recalled an interaction with Rahman, who had brought in a Middle Eastern stringed instrument into the studio.
Mick felt smug after identifying the instrument.
"I was very pleased with myself. I said, 'Nice santur part, A.R.' He said, 'How do you know this?'" he recalled.
"It was a very hippy thing to have this Persian classical instrument. Of course, I hadn't heard it since 1967."
Stewart says the premise for the band was based on their individual love of music. The Eurythmics star found the process fascinating, especially how they bonded creatively as time went on.
“It was a very natural and organic meeting of minds and musicality that got refined as we got to know each other while playing with each other," he said. "It got more complex."
