Charlie Watts confirms that the Rolling Stones will not perform at 2012 Olympics

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has confirmed that the band has declined an offer to perform at the 2012 Olympics.

The news is not surprising, since Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards recently admitted that the Stones will not be touring in 2012. There was rampant speculation that the Stones would do a tour in 2012 to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary.

As for the Rolling Stones performing at the 2012 Olympics (which will take place in London), Watts told the Telegraph: “I don’t think we’ll do that. I didn’t want to do it for a start. I’d love to have done the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, because that’s a great thing, I think, but I don’t think we’d have the time to do it. It’ll be a night of the Sirs won’t it, with Paul McCartney and Elton. Lovely guy, Elton."

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood had feuled rumors that the Stones would perform at the 2012 Olympics when he said in an interview that everyone in the Rolling Stones wanted to do the Olympic performance.
