Steven Tyler watched Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger impersonate him on ‘Saturday Night Live’ last weekend, and says he got it all wrong. “He could have done the ‘yeah yeah yeah!’” Tyler tells Hollywood Life. Jagger played Tyler during a skit called ‘So You Think You Can Dance At An Outdoor Music Festival.’
Tyler’s comments came after the ‘American Idol’ finale on Wednesday night. “I thought he looked good with long hair,” Tyler added. “I’ve always wanted him to grow it back.” As you’ll see in the video below, Jagger wore a silver streaked brunette wig that matched the younger Tyler’s famous locks.
It hardly seems like like this is the beginning of the next great rock and roll feud. Overall, Tyler thought Jagger was funny. In fact his only suggestion was that show should have gone further. “It was good, it was fun,” he admitted. “He could have done the bastard son of Mick Jagger, there have been so many skits.”
Jagger was both host and musical guest during last week’s episode on NBC. While he’d been musical guest before, it’s the first time he’d hosted on his own. Overall reviews of his performance were positive.

Them Moves Like Jagger Lift Saturday Night Live

Mick Jagger may have got some satisfaction -- and a lot of laughs -- from his performance as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, but he certainly got no satisfaction from learning that ratings for the show were down significantly from their average for the season. Nevertheless, it garnered bigger ratings than anything broadcast during primetime earlier in the night. It could not be determined if the lower ratings may have been related to the decision by some stations, reported by today's (Monday) Los Angeles Times , to cut out of the program early after Jagger used a four-letter word while performing a number with guitarist Jeff Beck. The newspaper observed that stations are permitted to air such language between 10 00 p.m. and 6 00 a.m. but that individual station managers can "use their discretion."

Ronnie Wood's Rolling Stone News, Talks Mick, 'SNL'

Exclusive: I had the great pleasure of running into rock legend Ronnie Wood today at La Colombe D’or restaurant in St. Paul de Vence, France. H was there with his manager and two young friends, and never looked better. The former Faces star turned Rolling Stones mainstay and I talked about Mick Jagger’s appearance tonight on “Saturday Night Live” as host.
Will Keith make a surprise appearance, I asked?
Said Ronnie: “Only if it’s in Connecticut.”
What about Keith writing demos and new songs for the Stones and a possible new album?
Ronnie: “I don’t know if Mick’s heard them. I know Keith has been working on stuff with Seve Jordan.”
And a 50th anniversary tour? Ronnie was a little cagey, and his manager–a sweet lady–did’t want him to say too much. “There’s a lot of talk,” Wood said. Ronnie also told me he had a great time at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction of the Faces/Small Faces. “I got to play a great number with Slash,” he said. Slash was inducted along with all of Guns n Roses except for Axl Rose, who declined the invitation.
For the record: Ronnie signed autographs and took pictures with everyone who asked in the dining room of this incredibly famous, beautiful Provence restaurant. A real gent as they say.

Mick Jagger mocks Steven Tyler, debuts political song on 'Saturday Night Live'...

Mick Jagger mocks Steven Tyler, debuts political song on 'Saturday Night Live'

Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger showed his comedic side by playing a variety of characters — including his version of Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler — when Jagger was the host and musical guest of "Saturday Night Live's" 37th season finale in New York City on May 19, 2012. Jagger also debuted a blues song that he said he wrote about the 2012 U.S. presidential election, with Jagger taking direct aim at Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. As previously announced, Jagger also performed on the show with Jeff Beck, Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire.
During and after the show, Jagger's name began trending worldwide on Twitter. Most people on the Internet who commented about his "Saturday Night Live" performance gave it positive reviews. It was Jagger's first time hosting NBC's "Saturday Night Live" as a solo artist. He had previously performed as a musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" in 1978 with the Rolling Stones and in 1983 as a solo artist.
In his opening monologue, Jagger (wearing a black shirt, black pants and a neon-gold blazer) said, "It's so wonderful to be here, hosting 'SaturdayNight Live.' You're about to see me do what I do best: stand still and talk. For a long time, I've been Mick Jagger, and because of that, I've met people from all over the world, and they always ask the same questions. So tonight, I thought I'd use the monologue to answer all those Mick Jagger frequently asked questions."
The questions were:
  • "Who's your favorite Rolling Stone?" Jagger said, "That depends. If I'm allowed to pick myself, my favorite is obviously me. But if I'm not allowed to pick myself, I don't believe in picking favorites."
  • "Who's your favorite new group?" Jagger said, "Obviously, I love the Foo Fighters. I love Aracade Fire. But you know who really gets me excited these days is the FreeCreditReport.com band."
  • "At concerts, why do you always ask the crowd to shout louder by saying, 'I can't hear you'?" Jagger said, "I can hear you. It's just that I'm not listening."
  • "Have you finally got satisfaction?" Jagger said, "It's very clever. It's a trick question though. If I say no, then they'd be like, 'What's your problem, man? What more exactly do you need?' If I say yes, then I can't sing the song [(I Can't Get No} Satusfaction'] anymore."
  • "Do you have any regrets?" Jagger said, "A few years ago, I was approached by a newly created restaurant chain called Ruby Tuesday's. They asked me if I would come along to their grand opening and sing the song 'Ruby Tuesday' for a thousand dollars and a lifetime supply of jalapeno poppers. I passed up on that offer, and not a day goes by that I don't regret that! Other than that, no regrets at all."
Jagger appeared in almost every skit in the episode. Here is a summary of skits that he did:
  • On a TV game show called "Secret Word" (set in 1964), Jagger (sporting glasses, a blazer and an ascot) played a closted gay movie star named Chaz Bragman who was a contestant on the show. During the game show, the host (played by Bill Hader) congratulated Chaz on his marriage. Chaz answered, "Yes, I'm very much in love. That's what my agent told me to say." A wedding picture was then shown of Chaz with his bride and a waiter, and Chaz has his hand out, reaching for the waiter's bottom.
  • At a karaoke club, a group of insurance agents/co-workers are watching people take turns singing Rolling Stones songs and imitating Mick Jagger. (Fred Armisen performs "Start Me Up," Bobby Moynihan performs "Sympathy for the Devil.") Jagger plays one of the insurance agents, a nerd named Kevin, who criticizes the performances. When the rest of the group gets tired of Kevin, they get up and leave him sitting by himself. A forlorn and rejected Kevin then sings a slow, sad version of "(I Can't Get No) Satusfaction."
  • On an MSNBC talk show called "Politics Nation," host Al Sharpton (played by Kenan Thompson) interviews guests about the news that JP Morgan's lost $3 billion in bad trades. Jagger plays a slick JP Morgan executive in London named Colin McKechnie, who avoids giving a straight answer by using grandiose financial terms.
  • On a talent show called "So You Think You Can Dance at an Outdoor Music Festival," Jagger plays Steven Tyler, who is one of three judges critiquing stereotypical dancers at festival concerts (the spaced-out hippie fan; the drunk fan; the mud-covered, dreadlocked fan under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms). The other judges are Carlos Santana (played by Armisen) and Jewel (played by Abby Elliott). Jagger's American accent isn't his strong suit here, but he does a few Stever Tyler-esque preening and howls in the skit.
  • On a soap opera called "The Californians," where the show's characters are dim-witted new-age types, Jagger (wearing a blond wig and a pink blazer) plays a weird guy named Timothy "who runs the ferris wheel over on Santa Monica pier." Timothy unexepectedly shows up and reveals he's the father of Stewart (played by Armisen) and that Stewart's brother (played by Hader). Stewart later finds out that his ditzy ex-girlfriend (played by Elliott) is now married to his father, Timothy, and is pregnant. Steve Martin makes a surprise cameo in this skit as a guy who shows up and asks for directions.
  • The last skit was a mock graduation ceremony, where Jagger joined the "Saturday Night Live" cast in saying goodbye to Kristen Wiig. (This was her last episode as a "Saturday Night Live" cast member.) As the Rolling Stones songs "She's a Rainbow" and "Ruby Tuesday" were performed by members of Arcade Fire, Wiig took turns dancing with and hugging cast members and "Saturday Night Live" executive producer Lorne Michaels.
(Check out this Web-exclusive video of Jagger doing a "Saturday Night Live" skit in which he portrays fictional stand-up comedian Denny Cumberbatch, who is part of The Original Kings of Catchphrase Comedy.)
For his musical performances, Jagger performed "The Last Time" with Arcade Fire; did a high-energy medley of "19th Nervous Breakdown" and "It's Only Rock'n'Roll (But I Like It)" with Foo Fighters; and debuted a new blues song called "Tea Party" with Beck. When Jagger introduced "Tea Party," he said he wrote it about the presidential election.
Here are some of the lyrics to the song:
"If you want to sleep in West Wing, you've got to strategize a bit ... You’re going to have to raise about $100 million or you’ll end so down deep in the sh*t ...
"Mr. Romney, you know he’s a ‘mitch,' but he always plays a straight affair. Mr. Romney, he's a hard-working man, and always says his prayers. Yeah, but the thing about him: Don't ever let him touch your hair ...
"Who'll be the president come November? Well, it's anybody's guess. Who'll be sitting in that Oval Office? Who can say? I must confess. I bet you [in] six months, he'll be screaming, 'Why won't you let me out [of] this mess!'"
Here is a sampling of Twitter comments about Jagger's "Saturday Night Live" performance as a host and musical guest:
"Tonight's #SNL was musical nirvana for me. Nice closing tunes for Wiig & Samberg's final Digital Short. Mick Jagger still a force. Wow."
"Have not watched in a while, but tonight gave me a good laugh. Mick Jagger was killing me with the Steven Tyler impr..."
"Wow - SNL was so good! Mick Jagger killed it - and Kristen Wiig. So amazing."

Mick Jagger speaks out about doing double duty on 'Saturday Night Live'

Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger says doing double duty as the host and musical guest of the 37th season finale of NBC's "Saturday Night Live" is a lot of hard work but very exciting. He also says that people watching the show should be prepared to be surprised. As previously reported, Jagger is doing the episode on May 19, 2012. For his musical performance, he will be joined by Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire and Jeff Beck.
In video interview soundbites that NBC has released to the media, Jagger commented:
"It's very exciting, hosting for the first time, 'SNL.' I've been on the show before. I've done sketches. I've done music. I've just been hanging out for fun. I've always said to Lorne [Michaels, creator/executive producer of 'Saturday Night Live'] when he's asked me, 'I don't want to do it. It's too much hard work. And I was right, of course. It is too much hard work, but it's a lot of fun ...
"'Saturday Night Live' is a surprise to everybody, to the cast, because it changes so much as it goes along. It's the week of rehearsals and the week of writing. And then the sketches get chosen, and then they get changed, and then they get cut. And then they get the musical number is the same. But you know, I'm not going to give any surprises away. It's all a surprise to me ...
"It's a lot of comedy, and you hope you get the funny lines that come to you. And so far, it's been a great experience. All the writers and the actors on the show are really great. They're very encouragng and very sharing."

A biopic about Mick Jagger and Keith Richards called ‘Exile on Main St.’ is in the works, with the casting stage reportedly underway. Rumor has it that Harry Styles, one of the members of British boy band One Direction, is in the running to play the Rolling Stones‘ frontman in the project, which is being funded by Virgin’s Richard Branson.
Why Harry Styles? Well, for one thing, there is some physical similarity between the teen and this weekend’s ‘SNL’ host. A source said, “Harry on stage can pass as a dead ringer for Jagger. If he can transform this image into a movie role, then he’s going to be a serious candidate to get the part. The signs so far are good.”
Styles also has some serious time commitments in terms of band touring, though, which could prohibit him from taking the role. Word is that the powers-that-be might even delay the project if need be in order to accommodate Styles’ schedule. That’s pretty impressive and indicates just how badly the producers want him for the role.
One Direction are the hottest thing in pop music, so this casting isn’t a shock. It could actually be a good thing to boost the film and get tons of Styles’ younger fans into the multiplex to get their classic rock education!

Rolling Stones Triple Platinum Award Sells for $1,300 on eBay

Rolling Stones
eBay
It’s every young musician’s dream to have a gold or platinum album hanging on their walls. For most people, it requires years of hard work and dedication, but for one lucky collector, it only takes $1,300. That’s the going rate for an RIAA-certified triple platinum award that recently sold on eBay.
The downside to buying the award, of course, is that it’s not presented to you for having put your blood, sweat and tears on to the record. However, when it’s for an album as perfect as the Rolling Stones’ ‘Sticky Fingers,’ the coolness factor is amplified considerably.
Recorded in 1971, ‘Sticky Fingers’ is widely regarded as one of, if not the best, Rolling Stones album ever. It features such classics as ‘Brown Sugar,’ ‘Wild Horses’ and ‘Dead Flowers.’ Even the deeper cuts, like ‘Sway,’ ‘I Got the Blues’ and the stunning closer, ‘Moonlight Mile,’ would be career highlights for most bands.
‘Sticky Fingers’ was was their first record released on their own label, the first one to feature Mick Taylor, Brian Jones’ replacement, throughout the album and had the debut of the band’s soon-to-be iconic “tongue and lips” logo.
It is also famous (or infamous) for its cover, which featured a photograph of a male crotch and a working zipper on his jeans. The cover was designed by Andy Warhol.
This triple-platinum award is authenticated by the RIAA through a hologram on the plaque.

NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ is pulling out at all the stops for the finale of its 37th season. First it was announced that Mick Jagger would be both the host and musical guest. Then they said that Jagger would be backed by Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire. Now they’ve added another rock legend to the proceedings, guitarist Jeff Beck.
Jagger and Beck have known each other since the beginning of their careers, having come up through the London blues scene that centered around the Ealing Club, and Beck even auditioned to join the group after Mick Taylor left in 1975. However, they have not often recorded together. Beck played on Jagger’s first two solo albums, 1985′s ‘She’s the Boss’ and 1987′s ‘Primitive Cool.’ The two most recently performed together in February in front of President Obama for ‘In Performance at the White House: Red, White and Blues.’
Many people are hoping that Jagger will drop some big news about an upcoming Rolling Stones album and/or tour during his appearance on ‘SNL.’ Earlier today it was learned that Stones guitarist Ron Wood is keeping October and November free. Let’s not forget that Wood got his start as the bass player in the Jeff Beck Group in 1968. We’ve been wrong before, but we think this is now too much of a coincidence for it to not be happening.

Ronnie Wood hints the Stones will do autumn 2012 shows; he books more solo gigs

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has once again hinted that the Rolling Stones will be performing in 2012. This time, he has given October and November as a possible time frame of when it will happen. He made the remarks on May 14, 2012, at the 2012 Sony Radio Academy Awards, where "The Ronnie Wood Show" came in second place for Best Specialist Muusic Programme. (BBC Radio 2’s David Rodigan won the award this year.)
According to The Sun, Wood said: “It looks like we are going to be doing more stuff. I am keeping October/November free, that’s what I’ve been told. I’m just awaiting more information.”
As for the rumor that Rolling Stones had studio rehearsals in Weehawken, New Jersey, in late April/early May 2012, Wood confirmed that the rehearsals happened, but he said that the studio time was not to write or record new songs. “New ones? Are you joking? We are familiarizing ourselves with our back catalogue and have only scratched the surface.”
Meanwhile, Wood is continuing to do solo performances. On May 15, 2012, he performed at the Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraiser, hosted by Heather Kerzner, at Claridge's Hotel in London.
On May 18, 2012, he is scheduled to perform in the VIP room of the Marriott Hotel in Cannes, France.
At the Marie Curie Cancer Care Fundraiser, Wood donated an original painting portrait that he did of his former Faces band mate Rod Stewart. The painting was auctioned at the event, and Wood's longtime friend Kate Moss served as an auction MC. Wood was accompanied to the event by his girlfriend Sally Humphreys.
Photographers snapped pictures of Wood arriving at Claridge's Hotel, and he was being his own roadie, since he carried his guitar to the gig.

The Rolling Stones‘ 50th anniversary celebration may include a tour, but it won’t include new music. At least, that’s what guitarist Ronnie Wood revealed in a recent interview. Previously it was believed the band wouldn’t be ready to tour until 2013.
“It looks like we are going to be doing more stuff,” Wood tells the Sun. “I am keeping October (and) November free, that’s what I’ve been told. I’m just awaiting more information.”
While the tease seems to be as tenuous as they come, it gives fans hope that all parties have put aside their differences and are at least talking about hitting the road as a group again. Even bassist Bill Wyman may join Mick Jagger and company for the trip.
As for new songs: “New ones? Are you joking? We are familiarizing ourselves with our back catalogue and have only scratched the surface,” Wood says, three weeks after exciting fans with ideas of the band’s return to the studio. Jagger quickly denied that was happening.
While 2012 marks 50 years since the Stones’ first gig, the band is now calling 2013 their true 50th birthday. “The Stones always considered ’63 to be 50 years, because Charlie (drummer Charlie Watts) didn’t actually join until January,” Keith Richards said previously, according to NME. “We look upon 2012 as sort of the year of conception, but the birth is next year.”
It’s doubtful fans are going to argue over semantics if the band confirms a few dates in the very near future. As for new music, well… perhaps there will be a 51st anniversary album.

Ronnie Wood Drops Another Rolling Stones Reunion Hint

Outspoken rocker Ronnie Wood has risked the wrath of Sir Mick Jagger yet again after hinting The Rolling Stones could be hitting the road later this year (12).
The guitarist landed in trouble with the band's frontman earlier this year after he mistakenly suggested they were planning to enter a recording studio to commemorate the iconic group's 50th anniversary.
Now he's let slip that he is keeping his diary free in October and November to work with the band.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "It looks like we are going to be doing more stuff. I am keeping October/November free, that's what I've been told. I'm just awaiting more information."
Wood also denied the rockers will be working on any more new material, adding, "New ones? Are you joking? We are familiarising ourselves with our back catalogue and have only scr

'He's on his own,' says Rolling Stones guitarist

When NBC announced that Mick Jagger would host and perform on the May 19th season finale of Saturday Night Live, fans wondered whether the Rolling Stones would use the platform to stage their first live performance in nearly five years – or at least make a cameo. But Keith Richards tells Rolling Stone that he won't be involved. "I spoke to Mick and he said it's something that he said yes to many months ago, so he's just doing it," Richards says. "He's on his own."
Will the guitarist be watching? "Probably," Richards says with a laugh.
News of Jagger's SNL gig – which marks the singer's third appearance on the show, and his first as a host – set off speculation among fans, some of whom wondered whether the Stones might use his appearance to announce their anticipated 50th anniversary tour. Jagger isn't promoting anything else currently (his last project, SuperHeavy, was released last September), and the Stones have staged rehearsals in recent weeks. However, Jagger is only confirmed to perform with Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters and Jeff Beck on the show.
Richards previously told Rolling Stone that the band will not tour in 2012 to mark their 50th anniversary. "Basically, we're just not ready," he said, adding that 2013 is the new goal. "I have a feeling that's more realistic … The Stones always really considered 1963 to be 50 years, because Charlie [Watts] didn't actually join until January. We look upon 2012 as sort of the year of conception, but the birth is next year."
But don't count Richards out of SNL completely. Stones plans often change at the last minute; Richards never announced that he was joining Jagger at 2001's Concert for New York, but he showed up, joining the frontman on "Miss You" and "Salt of the Ear

Rolling Stones food/wine event to take place in New York City on May 23, 2012

The Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York City is hosting a food/wine event on May 23, 2012, beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Time, to celebrate the gallery's exhibit "The Rolling Stones: 50 Years in Photography."
As previously reported, the exhibit at the gallery is open to the public from May 4, to May 31, 2012.
I've been to the Morrison Hotel Gallery to check out the exhibit, which is in an upstairs loft, and it is an intimate space that can comfortably seat about 40 people. About 50 people can squeeze into the loft if they are all standing. The sneak preview press reception that I attended on May 3, 2012, was also attended by photographers whose work is included in the exhibit, including Ken Regan, Bob Gruen and Henry Diltz.
This food/wine event on May 23 is not officially endorsed by the Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones will not be in attendance at this event.

The Rolling Stones ‘Exile on Main Street’ Turns 40...

The Rolling Stones ‘Exile on Main Street’ Turns 40

Exile on Main Street
Universal
The sprawling double album is a dangerous undertaking in rock because the possibility for overload is too great. Even the biggest fans of, say, the Beatles or Bruce Springsteen will admit that ‘The Beatles’ or ‘The River’ could have been better as a single album with the fat trimmed. However, the Rolling Stones‘ ‘Exile on Main Street,’ which was released 40 years ago today, not only doesn’t suffer from a lack of filler, but it’s length is actually one of its selling points.
Always influenced by American music, ‘Exile’ saw the Stones going deeper into country (‘Torn and Frayed’), folk (‘Sweet Black Angel’) and even gospel (‘I Just Want to See His Face’). They didn’t abandon the blues — they covered Slim Harpo’s ‘Shake Your Hips’ and Robert Johnson’s ‘Stop Breaking Down’ with gusto — so expanding ‘Exile’ allowed them the explore some of those musical ideas in greater depth than they had previously done.
And, of course, there was still plenty of time for some straightforward rock n’ roll, too. ‘Tumbling Dice’ and ‘Happy’ were Top 40 hits, but ‘All Down the Line’ also gets some radio airplay. ‘Exile also kicks off with one of the great one-two punches in rock history — ‘Rocks Off’ and ‘Rip This Joint.’
The most incredible fact about ‘Exile’ is that it even got made. In 1971 the band were forced to leave England due to tax issues. Most of the band moved to the south of France, while Mick Jagger stayed in Paris to be with his new wife, Bianca. The Stones’ mobile studio set up shop outside Keith Richards‘ villa, Nellcote, and the band went to work.
Sort of. The work they did wasn’t always on the album. Nellcote turned into a constant party with plenty of friends and hangers-on with occasional bouts of recording whenever enough members would show up and were capable of playing their instruments. Even though the recording was being done in his house, Keith Richards, whose heroin addiction had recently taken hold, was rarely in a condition to lead the sessions. Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman don’t even play on several songs.
By December, the sessions moved to Los Angeles for overdubs and some new tracks. With Jagger around more, he was able to take control and see the project to completion in time for its release on May 12, 1972.
But it’s the decadence of the basement at Nellcote, which will soon be the subject of a film, that is found within ‘Exile’s’ grooves. Its murkiness, with Jagger’s vocals further down in the mix than usual, can make it impenetrable on first few listens, but eventually its brilliance sinks in as you peel back the layers and discover everything underneath. Later reissues, most recently in 2010, have improved the sound with state-of-the-art technology, but kept the mystery intact.
So if the May sunshine bores the daylights out of you today, crank up your copy of ‘Exile on Main Street,’ be it vinyl, CD or mp3. You’re bound to hear something within that you’ve never noticed before.

The season finale of ‘Saturday Night Live’ is becoming a mini-all star rock party. Mick Jagger will host and perform during the May 19 broadcast. The Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire will join him on stage during his performances on the show.
Entertainment Weekly first reported the story on Friday morning, pointing out that Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl has been on the show three times as much as the Rolling Stones‘ frontman. However Grohl has never hosted, something Jagger will be doing solo for the first time.
In 1978 Jagger hosted the show with the rest of the Rolling Stones, and he has also since starred as a musical guest. He also returned earlier this year to cameo when Jimmy Fallon hosted.
Will Farrell hosts this weekend (May 12) episode. It’s widely speculated that this season will be the final one for show regulars Andy Samberg, Jason Sudeikis and Kristine Wiig.

“Jazz is my passion. This is the music that I really want to do.” – Charlie Watts, 2010
Drummer for the Rolling Stones since the beginning in January 1962.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee (1989)
Modern Drummer Hall of Fame Inductee (2006)
Ranked as one of the Top Ten World’s Best Drummers, per Rolling Stone magazine readers’ poll, February 2010
Charlie Watts born on June 2, 1941, in London, England is a prominent figure in the world of rock and roll as the longtime drummer of the Rolling Stones. He grew up in Wembley near London as the son of a truck driver. Watts first played with the Rolling Stones in 1963.
Around the age of ten, Watts discovered jazz and blues music; Miles Davis and John Coltrane were two of his early influences. He started playing music on his own a few years later, converting a banjo into a snare drum. But music was just a side interest for Watts at the time. He left school at 16, and then studied at the Harrow School of Art.
In 1960, Watts got a job with a London advertising agency. He showed his literary and artistic talents though his children’s book about jazz legend Charlie Parker, Ode to a High-Flying Bird, which was published in 1961. Watts also played drums with a variety of groups, including Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated. Blues Incorporated was an important part of London’s burgeoning blues scene, and featured appearances by such performers as Brian Jones,Mick JaggerEric Clapton, and others.
Watts, however, quit the band as it became more popular because he did not want to leave his day job. Guitarist Brian Jones went to form the Rollin’ Stones (later the Rolling Stones) with singer Mick Jagger, pianist Ian Stewart, and guitarists Keith Richards and Dick Taylor in 1962. After turning down the Rolling Stones previously, Watts finally agreed to join the group and played his first gig with the band in January 1963.
“For me it was just another job offer,” Watts explained in According to the Rolling Stones. He had no expectation that the group would soon be the next big rock sensation. In 1964, the Rolling Stones hit the No. 3 spot on the British pop charts with their cover of Bobby Womack’s “It’s All Over Now.”
While the rest of the band was cultivating their image as rock music’s bad boys, Watts was settling down. He married Shirley Ann Shephard in 1964, and the couple welcomed a daughter named Seraphina four years later.
The Rolling Stones scored their first No. 1 hit in the United States in 1965 with “Satisfaction.” A string of other successful songs quickly followed such as “Paint It Black” and “Ruby Tuesday.” The self-described “World’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band” continued to enjoy enormous popularity for the next two decades.
By the 1980s, he found time to pursue projects outside the Rolling Stones. He returned to his first love, jazz, and formed a number of different groups. Current jazz project with The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie featuring Axel Zwingenberger, Ben Waters, Charlie Watts and Dave Green. “A blast of sheer good fun… As the entire ensemble launched into a finale of Down the Road Apiece…the whole room seemed to have turned into a bouncy castle for grown-ups.” – The Times UK, April 15, 2009
Released seven jazz albums with the Charlie Watts Orchestra, Charlie Watts Quintet, Charlie Watts / Jim Keltner Project and Charlie Watts and The Tentet.

Drummer in Rocket 88, with Jack Bruce (upright bass), Ian Stewart (piano) and Alexis Korner (guitar).
Over the past two decades, Charlie has been able to pursue his passion for jazz, playing in a variety of settings whenever he wasn’t otherwise engaged with the “World’s Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band.”
In 1985, Charlie formed a big band, the Charlie Watts Orchestra, and toured the U.S., ultimately releasing Live at Fulham Town Hall.  In 1991, he formed a small group, calledThe Charlie Watts Quintet, to pay homage to the music that first grabbed him while growing up in London.  In a span of five years they released a series of stellar recordings:From One CharlieTribute To Charlie ParkerWarm And Tender and Long Ago And Far Away.  Next came Charlie’s heartfelt collaboration with Jim KeltnerThe Charlie Watts / Jim Keltner Project, in tribute to their favorite drummers, with each track titled after a different hero.  On his most recent double-CD release, Charlie’s Tentet was recorded live at the legendary Ronnie Scott’s in London on Watts at Scott’s.  Hear the warmth, joy, and virtuosity of this dream team of jazz masters as they perform a diverse collection of compositions from the likes of Duke Ellington and Thelonius Monk to originals from the Tentet themselves including Gerard Presencer‘s take on the Glimmer Twins in “Faction,” to two tracks culled from the aforementioned Watts / Keltner Project.

Rolling Stones rumored to be in 'secret' rehearsals in Weehawken, New Jersey...

Rolling Stones rumored to be in 'secret' rehearsals in Weehawken, New Jersey

Even though the Rolling Stones announced that they will not be touring in 2012 for the band's 50th anniversary, there are still rumors that the Stones will do at least one live performance in 2012. Several fan sites are reporting that the Rolling Stones have been rehearsing in a studio in Weehawken, New Jersey, from late April 2012 to early May 2012. At the rehearsals, Rolling Stones producer Don Was has reportedly been filling in on bass for Darryl Jones while Jones is performing in Europe.
Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood retracted an announcement that he made to the media that the Rolling Stones would be gathering in a studio at the end of April 2012. Perhaps Wood's statement was true after all, and the band told Wood to retract the announcement because they wanted to keep the rehearsals a secret.
In addition to speculation that the Rolling Stones are rehearsing for a concert, there has been speculation that the band may be in the rehearsal studio to film something for the Rolling Stones 50th anniversary documentary, which will be released sometime in September 2012. The movie's title and release date are to be announced.
The rumored rehearsals in Weehawken aren't the only recent Rolling Stones activity in the New York City area.
Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger is set to be the host and musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" on May 19, 2012.
Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts will perform eight sets with his other band the A, B, C & D of Boogie Woogie from June 29 to July 2, 2012, and with the Les Paul Trio on July 2, 2012, at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City.
Former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor is scheduled to perform at Iridium Jazz Club from May 9 to May 14, 2012.
Rolling Stones backup singer Bernard Fowler has a solo gig at Sullivan Hall in New York City on May 18, 2012. Alexandra Richards (the youngest child of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards) is the DJ at this show, so fans have been speculating that Keith Richards might be at the show too.
The Rolling Stones have not done a public concert since 2007, at the end of the tour for "A Bigger Bang." The band's most recent public appearances were in 2008, when the Rolling Stones promoted the Rolling Stones concert documentary film "Shine a Light" at media events and premieres in Berlin, New York City and London.
In May 2010, Jagger, Richards and Watts attended a party in New York City to celebrate the remastered reissue of the Rolling Stones 1972 album "Exile on Main Street," but Wood did not attend the party since he was not a member of the Rolling Stones when the band recorded "Exile on Main Street."
