Rolling Stones Mobile Studio to be restored

The Rolling Stones Mobile Studio is being revamped for a music venue in Calgary.
By PATRICK - January 30, 2013
The Rolling Stones Mobile Studio is being revamped for a music venue in Calgary. The studio, which is embodied within a large lorry, was purchased by the National Music Center in 2000, but has remained in storage ever since. It is now to be restored by a team led by John Leimseider, the National Music Centre's electronics technician.

Leimseider said: "It's spectacular - some of the most important albums of our musical lives were done on that. This is a piece of major history that has to be protected to death, so my plan is a very conservative restoration. There are people who will take consoles and rewire everything - we're not changing anything, and the plan is to clean it up and make it work perfectly."

Famous albums recorded using the studio include the Stones' "Sticky Fingers" and"Exile On Main St" and Led Zeppelin's "III", "IV", "Houses Of The Holy" and "Physical Graffiti". Notable songs recorded using the studio include Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" and Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water".

The National Music Centre, which is to open its doors in 2015, will place the truck by the King Eddy (King Edward Hotel) stage. A spokesperson for the Centre has stated that it is hoped that the studio will be used for recordings again in the future, after years of dormancy.

Anita Pallenberg,Happy birthday.!

Anita Pallenberg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anita Pallenberg
Born 6 April 1944 (age 68)
Rome, Italy
Residence London, England
Occupation Actress; fashion designer; artist; former model
Partner(s) Keith Richards (1967–1979)
Children Marlon Richards
Angela (Dandelion) Richards
Tara Richards (deceased)
Anita Pallenberg (born 6 April 1944, Rome, Italy) is an Italian-born actress, model, and fashion designer. She was the romantic partner of Rolling Stones multi-instrumentalist and guitarist Brian Jones and later the partner of Keith Richards, the guitarist of the same band, from 1967 to 1979, by whom she has two surviving children.

Early life

Pallenberg was born on 6 April 1944 in German-occupied Rome, the daughter of Arnaldo Pallenberg, an Italian artist and Paula Wiederhold, a German secretary. Anita became fluent in four languages at an early age and studied medicine, picture restoration and graphic design.[3] Before settling in London, she lived in Germany, her native Rome, as well as New York City, where she was involved with the Living Theatre, starring in the play Paradise Now, which featured on-stage nudity, and Andy Warhol's Factory.[2]

Romantic involvements

Pallenberg is known for her romantic involvement with Rolling Stones band members Brian Jones, whom she met in 1965 in Munich, where she was working on a modelling assignment,[4] and Keith Richards, for whom she left Jones in 1967 while on holiday in Morocco.[5] She remained in a relationship with Richards until 1980 although they never married. There were rumours that she also had a brief affair with Mick Jagger during the filming of Performance, and Keith Richards states in his autobiography Life that it happened.[6] However, Pallenberg denied the affair in March 2007 when Performance was released on DVD.[7]

Children

Pallenberg and Richards together had three children: son Marlon (born 10 August 1969), daughter Angela (her middle name, which she chose to go by after initially being named and called Dandelion by her parents), born 17 April 1972), and a second son, Tara (26 March – 6 June 1976), who died in his cot 10 weeks after birth.

Influence on the Rolling Stones

Author A. E. Hotchner mentions Pallenberg's influence on the development and presentation of the Rolling Stones from the late 1960s and through the 1970s.[8][page needed] She played an unusual role in the male-dominated world of rock music in the late 1960s, acting as much more than just a groupie or partner of a band member. Jagger respected her opinion enough that tracks on Beggars Banquet were remixed when Pallenberg criticised them.[8][page needed] In the 2002 compilation release of Forty Licks, Pallenberg is credited as singing background vocals on "Sympathy for the Devil".
Tony Sanchez's account of his time as Richards's bodyguard and drug dealer mentions Pallenberg's strange spiritual practices: "She was obsessed with black magic and began to carry a string of garlic with her everywhere — even to bed — to ward off vampires. She also had a strange mysterious old shaker for holy water which she used for some of her rituals. Her ceremonies became increasingly secret, and she warned me never to interrupt her when she was working on a spell."[9][unreliable source?]Sanchez goes on to describe Anita as having been "like a life-force, a woman so powerful, so full of strength and determination that men came to lean on her".[10]
Richards says she shared his addiction to heroin;[11] she was charged first in the 1977 Toronto heroin arrest that led to Richards being arrested on charges that could have led to a lengthy prison sentence. A warrant for Pallenberg's arrest was the reason police came to search the pair's hotel rooms; she pleaded guilty to marijuana possession and was fined, several weeks after Richards's arrest.[12]
In 1981, after Richards and Pallenberg had split up, Richards stated that he still loved Pallenberg and saw her as much as he ever did, although he had already met his future wife Patti Hansen.[13] In a 1985 Rolling Stone interview, Mick Jagger claimed that Pallenberg "nearly killed me",[14] when he was asked whether the Rolling Stones had any responsibility for the personal drug addictions of people close to the band.
Singer Marianne Faithfull, Jagger's girlfriend in the late 1960s, remained a friend of Pallenberg's.[citation needed] They appeared together in the fourth series (2001) of the BBC-TV/Comedy Central/ Saunders and French production of Absolutely Fabulous in episode four, "Donkey", with Faithfull playing "God" and Pallenberg "The Devil" in a dream sequence experienced by Jennifer Saunders' character Edina Monsoon.

Cleared of manslaughter

In 1979, a 17-year-old boy, Scott Cantrell, shot himself in the head with a gun owned by Keith Richards, while in Pallenberg's bed, at the South Salem, New York house shared by Richards and Pallenberg. The youth had been employed as a part-time groundskeeper at the estate and was involved in a sexual relationship with Pallenberg. Richards was in Paris recording with the Rolling Stones but his son was at the house when the teen killed himself. Pallenberg was arrested; however, the death was ruled a suicide in 1980, despite rumours that Pallenberg and Cantrell had been playing a game of Russian roulette. The police investigation stated that Pallenberg was not in the room or on the same floor of the house at the time the fatal shot was fired.[1][page needed]

Film and fashion

Pallenberg has appeared in more than a dozen films over a forty year span. Most notably, she appeared as The Great Tyrant in Roger Vadim's cult-classic sci-fi film Barbarella, and as the sleeper wife of Michel Piccoli in the film Dillinger Is Dead, directed by Marco Ferreri. She had a small part in Volker Schlöndorff's Michael Kohlhaas - der Rebell which was filmed in Slovakia in 1969 and the 1970 avant-garde Performance in which she played the role of Pherber (actually filmed in 1968 but not released for two years). She appeared in a 1968 documentary about the Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil, directed by French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. In a March 2007 interview Anita related her encounters in Rome in 1960, while La Dolce Vita was happening,[clarification needed] with Italian filmmakers such as Federico Fellini, Alberto Moravia, Luchino Visconti and Pier Paolo Pasolini.[15] In 1985 for the video of "Wild Boys" Duran Duran used the clip of Pallenberg from Barbarella.
Pallenberg has been portrayed in popular film and television. Monet Mazur played a young Pallenberg in the 2005 film Stoned, a biographical film about the last year of Brian Jones' life. In 2006 the NBC television show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip included a story arc in which the character Harriet Hayes was hired to play Pallenberg in a film.
Pallenberg became a fashion designer during the 1990s, after four years at London's St. Martins School of Art and Design.[2] She now divides her time between New York City and Europe, and sporadically appears in public as a party DJ.[citation needed]

MICK JAGGER: We’re not gonna stop.!

Mick Jagger: Rolling Stones ‘not going to do Coachella’

Mick Jagger: Rolling Stones ‘not going to do Coachella’
Mick Jagger has killed fans’ dreams of catching the Rolling Stones at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California this spring, insisting it’s “too early” for the rockers to consider.
Reports suggesting the reunited supergroup would be headlining the annual Indio event swirled in December when a post on the band’s touring app hinted that Coachella would be a possibility for 2013.
Insiders have since suggested such a gig is unlikely and now Jagger himself has announced the Stones will not be playing there, as organisers prepare to release the line-up.
The singer tells the NME, “We’re not going to do Coachella because it’s too early. There was a rumor we were gonna do that one, but it’s very early, Coachella. It’s April or something, isn’t it? And we’re not gonna be ready to go by April.”
But he has confirmed there will be dates in 2013, adding, “We’re not gonna stop.”
The Rolling Stones reformed last year for five dates to mark the group’s 50th anniversary.

Rolling Stones get four nominations for 2013 NME Awards; Mick Jagger reacts

With four nominations, Rolling Stones are among the leading contenders for the 2013 NME Awards, which will take place on February 27 at the Troxy in London. The nominations were announced on January 22, 2013. The awards are voted on by the public at NME's website.
The Rolling Stones are nominated for these prizes: Best Live Band; Best Music Film (for "Crossfire Hurricane"); Best Book (for "Rolling Stones: 50"); and Best Music Moment (Rolling Stones play London's O2 Arena).
It has not yet been announced if the Rolling Stones will attend the awards show or not.
M.I.A., Tame Impala and Haim also lead the list of nominees, with four nominations each.
Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger commented in the NME issue that goes on sale on January 23, 2013: "It's very nice to be nominated. When I first heard it was four things, I thought, 'Ooh, blimey! That's very nice!' And it’s not a journalists-only thing, it's not a coterie of closely-knit people choosing. It’s funny, because when we were rehearsing at Wembley Arena last year, it was where we used to do the NME Pollwinners. We remembered, it was the first time we ever played 'Jumpin' Jack Flash,' at one of those Pollwinners concerts!"

Blige (in London and Brooklyn), Florence Welch (in London), the Black Keys (in Newark) and Gary Clark Jr. (in Brooklyn and Newark).
In addition, the Rolling Stones performed two songs ("You Got Me Rocking" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash") at the 12-12-12 concert to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims. The concert was held at New York City's Madison Square Garden on December 12, 2012.
Before they launched their mini-tour in 2012, the Rolling Stones did a "warm-up" show at the La Trabendo nightclub in Paris on October 25, 2012.
As previously reported, Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger has confirmed what he previously hinted at in interviews: The Rolling Stones will tour in 2013. The tour dates are to be announced.
In an article published on January 4, 2013, Rolling Stone magazine's website quoted Jagger as saying: “There have been quite a few offers, I’m going to see what’s on the table and discuss it with everyone. We’ll announce it when we’ve figured it out.”
Jagger also told NME that the Rolling Stones will not perform at the Coachella Festival in 2013: “We’re not going to do Coachella because it’s too early. There was a rumor we were gonna do that one, but it’s very early, Coachella. It’s April or something, isn’t it? And we’re not gonna be ready to go by April.”
As for the Rolling Stones tour in 2013, Jagger confirmed to NME: “We’re not gonna stop.”

Mercedes-Benz ‘Diner’ Teaser Commercial – What’s the Song?...

Mercedes-Benz ‘Diner’ Teaser Commercial – What’s the Song?

Rock fans tuned into yesterday’s (Jan. 20) football playoff games got a shock when, during a break in the action, the familiar opening of the Rolling Stones‘ Sympathy for the Devil’ rang out of their television speakers.
The song is being used to tease Mercedes-Benz’s ‘Diner’ commercial, which will premiere during the Super Bowl on Feb. 3. The spot takes place in an old New Orleans corner diner. Suddenly, a dog barks, the wind blows the doors open, coffee bubbles and lights flicker as the customers and staff try to figure out what is going on.
“Something powerful is coming,” the narrator says over the Stones’ classic. “See it on February 3rd.”
The Great-Ads blog says that the full 60-minute spot will also feature supermodel Kate Upton and Usher, who recently got photobombed by Bruce Springsteen. According to reports, a single 30-second spot on the Super Bowl broadcast costs a reported $4 million. Mercedes-Benz also owns the naming rights to the Superdome, where the Super Bowl will be played.
Few songs reflected the global turmoil of 1968 better than the ‘Sympathy for the Devil,’ from the landmark ‘Beggars Banquet’ album. Now it’s being used in an advertisement. More specifically, a tease for another commercial, one which will find the song paired up with the model du jour and a pop star.

'Crossfire Hurricane' DVD/Blu-ray No. 1 in U.K. but U.S. release delayed

In January 2013, the Rolling Stones' "Crossfire Hurricane" DVD/Blu-ray went on sale in multiple countries, including the U.K. and Japan, but the U.S. release has been delayed to a date that will be announced. Eagle Rock Entertainment's Eagle Vision is distributing the "Crossfire Hurricane" DVD/Blu-ray, which was originally scheduled for a U.S. release on January 15, 2013.
The "Crossfire Hurricane" DVD/Blu-ray was No. 1 on the U.K. Music Video sales chart in the DVD/Blu-ray's first two weeks of release, according to the U.K.'s Official Charts Company. The U.K. release of "Crossfire Hurricane" was on January 7, 2013. In its third week of release in the U.K., "Crossfire Hurricane" dropped to No. 5.
"Crossfire Hurricane" (directed by Brett Morgen) is the official 50th anniversary documentary of the Rolling Stones. However, the movie focus primarily on the band's first 20 years. Morgen said in interviews that because of the deadline for the movie's release, there wasn't enough time to cover the band's entire history in the film. Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger, who is one of the producers of "Crossfire Hurricane," told USA Today that a "Crossfire Hurricane" sequel is very possible.
In October and November 2012, "Crossfire Hurricane" had a limited (usually one night only) release in cinemas in Europe, Canada and Australia. The movie had its TV premiere in November 2012. (HBO televised the movie in the U.S., while BBC2 had the U.K. TV premiere.)
The current members of the Rolling Stones (Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, drummer Charlie Watts and guitarist Ronnie Wood) attended the premieres of "Crossfire Hurricane" in London (on October 18, 2012) and in New York City (on November 13, 2012). Former Rolling Stones members Bill Wyman (bass) and Mick Taylor (guitar) were at the London premiere.

The Rolling Stones won't play Coachella 2013, according to band source ...

The Rolling Stones won't play Coachella 2013, according to band source

The Rolling Stones won't play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California this year, according to a source close to the band.

Although the source chose not to comment on the rumours, Rolling Stone claims that they have been informed that the legendary rock 'n' roll band will not top the bill at the bash this summer - even though they have been rumoured with a headline slot for several months.

In December last year, The Rolling Stones seemingly leaked plans to play the festival after the rock legends' mobile app listed a new live date on April 12, 2013 in Indio at Coachella 2013, although they quickly took the information down.

Speculation increased when the festival's organisers posted an advert on their Facebook page, with the image sparking excitement among fans after they interpreted it as a nod towards the band due to it depicting a stone inside the field in which Coachella takes place. However, a representative for the festival's promoter, Goldenvoice, later clarified that the image wasn't hinting at a potential headline act and, rather than a stone, it actually pictured a polo ball in reference to the Empire Polo Grounds, where the bash takes place.

Regardless of the band's plans for Coachella, however, both singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards have spoken about the possibility of playing more live shows in 2013. Jagger said that, after their brief run of gigs in London, New York and New Jersey at the tail end of 2012, the band were in fine form and keen to get back on onto the stage to continue performing, stating: "I'm going to see what's on the table and discuss it with everyone. We'll announce it when we've figured it out." Richards, meanwhile, added: "Really, all you're going to have to do is wait for an announcement."

Their comments came after Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood recently claimed that the band will "rock till they drop".

Rolling Stones’ ’50 and Counting’ Tour Tops Earnings List...

Rolling Stones’ ’50 and Counting’ Tour Tops Earnings List

The five shows the Rolling Stones played between Nov. 25 and Dec. 15 raked in over $38 million, landing the group on top of the most recent Hot Tours list at Billboard.com. All five shows — two in London, one in Brooklyn, N.Y. and two in Newark, N.J. — were sell outs.
The five concerts saw the band play hits from their extensive catalog and the two new songs from the ‘Grrr!’ compilation. The sales total was nearly five times as much as the No. 2 artist on the list, released this week. Robbie Williams played to 54K fans during three shows in London, earning $7.9 million.
Of course the sales figures don’t include what the band earned from their year-end show airing on Pay-Per-View. The Dec. 15 show at the Prudential Center featured many guest stars, including Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer and Lady Gaga. The only other classic rocker to make the top 10 was Elton John, who ranked sixth after two mid-November shows in Perth, Australia. The ‘Rocket Man’ singer brought in a shade under $4 million.
It’s not clear what 2013 will mean for the Rolling Stones, but the band has hinted they’ll play more dates. At last check Mick Jagger and company were still sifting through several offers, and had made no commitments despite rumors they’d be playing Coachella in April.
