The Rolling Stones won't be performing at the 2012 Olympics in London, but lead singer Mick Jagger still attended the Olympics by being one of the spectators of the track-and-field games on August 6, 2012.
Jagger was accompanied by fashion designer L'Wren Scott (his longtime live-in girlfriend) and his 13-year-old son, Lucas.
Jagger was also seen in conversation with 2012 Olympics committee chairman Sebastian Coe, who won several Olympic medals as a runner in the 1980s.
Jagger's interest in athletics go back to his childhood. His late father, Joe, was a physical education teacher, and Jagger often competed in sports when he was a boy.
When the Rolling Stones go on tour, Jagger (who turned 69 years old in 2012) goes through rigorous physical training. He has long been admired for having the body and energy of someone in his 20s or 30s.
The Rolling Stones were invited to perform at the Olympics, but Jagger told the media that the band declined the invitation because the Rolling Stones did not feel they were ready to perform at that event.
As previously reported, Jagger told the London Evening Standard that the Rolling Stones are planning to do some 50th anniversary concerts in the autumn of 2012. Further details about these shows are to be announced, but Jagger and the other members of the Rolling Stones have stated in interviews that the band will not do a full-scale tour in 2012.
