The Oceania run was originally planned for March and April, but the spring dates were postponed following the death of Mick Jagger’s partner L’Wren Scott on March 17. The tour was rescheduled for the fall and began with a sold out stadium performance in Adelaide, South Australia. Attendance at the city’s sports venue, Adelaide Oval, totaled 52,910 for the show on Oct. 25 that grossed $8.9 million.
The second stop Down Under was the highest grossing of the three dates in this week’s recap, a two-night engagement at Perth Arena with $9.8 million in sales. The Stones were the highest grossing touring artist of the year at the Perth venue that also hosted multiple-show stints by Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, Robbie Williams, Michael Buble and Justin Timberlake.
The band’s performance on Nov. 5 at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena drew 12,262 fans with ticket sales totaling $4.8 million, the venue’s highest gross for a single performance this year. Buble did have a higher overall gross at the arena last spring when his tour stopped in Melbourne, but he played four shows to get his $5.1 million sales total.
One performance on the Oceania jaunt had to be cancelled when Jagger was unable to sing due to illness. The band did not perform a scheduled outdoor concert on Nov. 8 at Hanging Rock, northwest of Melbourne, but the tour resumed on Nov. 12 in Sydney. The final performance will be a stadium event in Auckland, New Zealand, on Nov. 22.
Latin superstar Vicente Fernandez scores a Hot Tours ranking, landing at No. 2 with $7.3 million in sales from 12 sold-out concerts at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional. The legendary Mexican ranchero singer, who had to cancel his Farewell tour in 2012 due to illness, returned to the stage in the Mexican capital city for seven shows in September and five in October. Attendance totaled 114,055 during the run that began on Sept. 10 and ended on Oct. 12.
Fernandez has headlined at the national auditorium numerous times, but this year’s concert run is his highest grossing engagement at the venue, based on Billboard’s Boxscore archives. Prior to these concerts, the top-grosser was a 10-show run during August and September of 2008 with $2.9 million in revenue from 89,746 sold seats. His oldest concert in the archives is a two-night stint at the Mexico City venue on June 10-11, 1995. He performed for sellout crowds at both shows, grossing $348,650 from 19,676 sold tickets ranging in price from $8 to $30.
