Jade Jagger, daughter of rock legend Mick Jagger, tears up during speech over death of best friend
Jade Jagger is still mourning the death of her best friend.
The only child of Mick and Bianca Jagger burst into tears at a party at the Fifth Ave. home of Denise Rich on Saturday night, and later told us she was crying for a close pal who was claimed by cancer.
Along with Total Management and Gilt City, Jagger was one of the hosts of the Fashion Week soiree at Rich's posh pad. Her emotional display came during a speech that Rich made about Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research, which the celebrity songwriter founded after her 27-year-old daughter Gabrielle Aouad succumbed to leukemia in 1996.
Jagger did her best to be discreet, but she was clearly overcome. And shortly after she dried her eyes, we asked why she'd gotten emotional.
"I lost my best friend," she told us.
The 39-year-old socialite and jewelry designer declined to discuss her friend any further or even to divulge her name, saying, "You wouldn't have known her anyway."
According to a 2005 interview in London's Evening Standard, Jagger became involved in the charity Fashion Targets Breast Cancer after losing her "childhood best friend" — identified only as "Susie"— to the disease. Her friend's death was "devastating," Jagger told the newspaper.
Apparently, it still is.
Jagger and her Disco Diamond Collection of jewelry were feted on Friday night with a private dinner at Mr. H and an after-party at the Dream hotel's Electric Room nightclub.
Holding court on a couch near the entrance were Lindsay Lohan, designer Calvin Klein and his 21-year-old boyfriend Nick Gruber.
Although there has been much cocktail-party whispering in recent weeks that Klein, 68, and his beau are on the outs, the two men looked quite together as they chatted with Lohan.
Later that night, LiLo and Dream hotelier Vikram Chatwal revived rumors that they were more than friends. Last April, Lohan denied reports that she and Chatwal — who had separated from his actress wife, Priya Sachdev — were romantically involved.
Early Saturday morning, LiLo and Chatwal were deep in conversation, and a source tells us the hotelier kept asking Lohan if she had everything she needed.
The trouble doll left before Chatwal, who stayed late.
Around 2 a.m., Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld, the son of former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, arrived with a glamorous herd that included Stavros Niarchos, his girlfriend Jessica Hart and Andres Santo Domingo. Courtney Love also put in an appearance and seemed to looking for Lohan, who'd already departed.
