Back To Basics does exactly what it says on the sleeve. It is unashamedly stripped back. The snappy lyrics are refreshingly audible and the instrumentation is clean, subtle and accomplished.
Bill Wyman’s first solo album in 33 years wears its influences on its sleeve – Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, JJ Cale – and there’s more than a passing nod to Bill’s own English background. It is that rare thing, a melt of styles and genres that actually work together – uplifting in a jaunty, dancey way and pensive in a bluesy, narrative way.
Bill Wyman’s last solo UK album, Bill Wyman, was released in 1982. Back To Basics comprises only his fourth UK solo release. But Bill has not been idle of course. 31 years as a recording artist, author of seven learned books, globally exhibited photographer, metal detecting expert with his own brand of metal detector, producer, composer for film and TV and founder of the very successful Rhythm Kings who release albums and tour regularly – he has had a pretty full calendar. It was only when archiving old demos last year he realised he had around 60 songs he’d never released. He chose three songs that needed reworking and did just that. He put them together with brand new songs and went into his studio to record them. The album comprises 12 tracks in total, eight of which are new songs. Musicians joining Bill in the studio include long-time collaborator/guitarist Terry Taylor, Guy Fletcher (Mark Knopfler), Graham Broad and Robbie McIntosh while co-production credit goes to Andy Wright (Jeff Beck, Eurythmics, Simply Red). Rolling Stones' next 'Vault' series to feature 1990 Tokyo show...

The Rolling Stones are continuing their “From The Vault” series of previously unreleased Rolling Stones live shows with the next release on October 30 of a show recorded at the Tokyo Dome in 1990, Eagle Rock Entertainment announced Oct. 2. “From the Vault: Live at the Tokyo Dome 1990” will be released in SD Blu-Ray, DVD/2 CD, 4LP/DVD, DVD and digital configurations. This 1990 show was one of 10 the group played from February 14 to Feb. 27 that year at the venue at the end of their Steel Wheels World Tour. These shows marked the first time the Stones performed in Japan.
The Stones are in sharp form. Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood are in complete sync on “Start Me Up,” the opening number. The two guitarists rev it into high gear on “Bitch,” which follows. Mick Jagger also adds a Japanese introduction to “Sad Sad Sad.” The Tokyo footage has been restored and the sound newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release, and it shows. The video is excellent and the sound is clean and stunning. The “From the Vault” series has been uneven, but “Live at the Tokyo Dome 1990” looks to be one of the series' best.

Rod Stewart and Kenney Jones at a charity gig in Surrey, England, jumped
at the chance to be part of the show after revealing he's a big fan of
Bay's music.

The singer tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It's been
a mad few weeks. Back at the beginning of September, Ronnie presented
me with an award... so I was lucky enough to meet and get to hang with
him... that night.

"Later on, Ronnie and I got talking, and he'd
asked what I was up to, etc. I'd been telling everyone how excited I
was about my three nights coming up at Brixton Academy. Next thing I
know, all caught up in the moment, the question just jumped out, 'Would
you be up for joining me onstage?' He said he'd totally be up for it.
And that was that."

Wood's Stones bandmate Keith Richards is
also a fan - he recently told The Quietus, "Ed Sheeran is really
interesting to me ... And James Bay."

Bill Wyman is to appear on ITV’s new series on Goodwood in September, focusing on classic cars and motoring as part of the Goodwood Revival.

Bill is set to appear in one of the four Goodwood episodes, broadcast on ITV 4. The series, which takes a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic motoring venue, features classic cars and motor racing of all stripes.
Bill appears on the Classic Cars episode. He was interviewed during the auction of his own classic cars, and will appear on ITV 4. The programme times are:

Rod Stewart wants to release a book of poetry with Ronnie Wood.
The 'Maggie May' hitmaker has always had a ''unique'' relationship with his Faces bandmate, to the extent they have their own language, and he would love for them to publish a ''hilarious'' literary project they previously worked on.
He said: ''It's a unique relationship. We have our own little language. Did he ever tell you about the book of poems and drawings we did when we were with Jeff Beck?
''It's his sketches and our poems and it's so funny. I can't even begin to describe it. It's just hilarious. I'd love for us to bring that out.''
Rod and Ronnie first became friends when they were members of the Jeff Beck group, and the 70-year-old singer thinks the group leader was jealous of their close relationship so didn't pay them well and left them without food.
He told Uncut magazine: ''I think what it was with Jeff - and I hope he takes this the right way and I'm sure he's changed now - he wasn't a good bandleader.
''He never looked after me and Ronnie. He may have just been a bit envious of Woody and my brotherly relationship. I think he fired Ronnie about three times and got him back again.
''There were some weeks where we weren't getting paid much. We would go days without food. Jimi Hendrix's girlfriend used to feed us.''

Keith Richards Will Not Use Guitar Pedals Onstage: 'Hey Man, It's Enough to Stand Up Straight!'...

The Rolling Stones guitar icon Keith Richards revealed that he doesn't use any guitar pedals onstage, jokingly noting that "it's enough to stand up straight" these days.

He said during an appearance on WTF with Marc Maron Podcast: "Hey man, it's enough to stand up straight, [laughs] let alone poking around on buttons.

"Any of those effects that I need actually can be done from behind [the stage]. Because I need to know where to put my feet. Tripping over those boxes, it just ties you down."

And speaking of people whose help he uses during performance, Keef particularly praised Pierre De Beauport, his guitar tech for nearly 25 years.

"He decides what guitars I'm gonna play on songs. That's how much I trust him," the musician said.

Discussing the band's approach to music, as well as his early influences, which include Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Buddy Guy, and more, Richards commented:

"We were not so much interested in becoming virtuosos. It was how those guys got that sound. To us it was the thing of trying to get close to making that kind of sound. We studied, man! We studied and starved."
