Rolling Stones documentary 'Crossfire Hurricane' nominated for Emmy Award

Rolling Stones documentary 'Crossfire Hurricane' nominated for Emmy Award

"Crossfire Hurricane" had its TV premiere in the U.S. on HBO in December 2012.
Here are the other nominees in the category of Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special:
  • "All The President's Men Revisited" (Discovery Channel)
  • "Crossfire Hurricane" (HBO)
  • "Death And The Civil War (American Experience)" (PBS)
  • "Ethel" (HBO)
  • "Manhunt: The Inside Story of the Hunt for Bin Laden" (HBO)
As previously reported, the U.S./Canadian release for the movie on DVD, Blu-ray and digital video was May 21, 2013. "Crossfire Hurricane" was originally scheduled for a U.S. and Canadian release on DVD/Blu-ray/digital video on Jan. 15, 2013. It was released in January 2013 in the U.K., Japan and other countries.
"Crossfire Hurricane" (directed by Brett Morgen) is the official 50th anniversary documentary of the Rolling Stones. However, the movie focuses primarily on the band's first 20 years. Morgen said in interviews that because of the deadline for the movie's release, there wasn't enough time to cover the band's entire history in the film. Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger, who is one of the producers of "Crossfire Hurricane," told USA Today that a "Crossfire Hurricane" sequel is very possible.
"Crossfire Hurricane" won the prize for Best Music Film at the 2013 NME Awards.

Rolling Stones Arrest History: 11 Brushes with the Law...

Rolling Stones Arrest History: 11 Brushes with the Law

StonesArrests
As this Rolling Stones arrest history attests, it’s hard to be the most popular, rebellious band in the world for five decades without finding yourself behind bars once or twice.
Here are the scandalous, sometimes amusing and occasionally troubling tales behind the 11 brushes with the law the Stones (and their families) have encountered over the years. Startlingly, none of them seems to involve whoever designed the day-glo suits the group wore on the cover of its 1986 album ‘Dirty Work.’

Mick Jagger & Keith Richards

The Rolling Stones' first brush with the law came when police were tipped off about drug use during a party at guitarist Keith Richards' home. Richards and singer Mick Jagger were arrested, and four months later received very harsh sentences: three months for Jagger and a year for Richards. Two months later on appeal, the sentences were dismissed.

Brian Jones

Shortly after Jagger and Richards' arrests (and subsequent probations), Stones guitarist Brian Jones was arrested for possession of marijuana and allowing his friends to enjoy the herby substance in his apartment. Like his bandmates, he was also given just a warning, but it appears he didn't listen as closely ...

Brian Jones

Almost exactly a year later, Jones was again arrested for marijuana possession, and this time faced a long jail term. A psychiatrist made an attempt to keep Jones out of confinement due to mental health issues, and a judge eventually did have pity on him, letting the guitarist off with another stern warning. However, Jones was now unable to obtain a visa to tour overseas, which contributed to his departure from the group.

Mick Jagger & Marianne Faithfull

You know what they say: The couple that plays together gets arrested together. And as their May 24 1968, bust for marijuana possession (what else?) demonstrates, Jagger and girlfriend Marianne Faithfull were certainly no exception to the rule.
Interestingly, this arrest happened on the same day that the Rolling Stones released 'Jumpin' Jack Flash,' the single that launched a big comeback after their much-maligned 'Their Satanic Majesties Request' album. The track hit No. 3 on the chart, so maybe the arrest was some kind of lucky charm.

Shirley Watts (Wife of Charlie Watts)

Drummer Charlie Watts has kept on the right side of the law throughout his Stones career. But 40 years ago his wife Shirley was arrested after causing quite an incident at Nice International Airport in France. Specifically, she was booked after swearing at and hitting customs officials, an act most people only fantasize about.

In order to keep a Rolling Stones concert scheduled for that evening in his city from being canceled, the mayor of Boston had Richards and Jagger released into his personal custody after the duo was arrested for scuffling with a photographer in nearby Rhode Island. "The Stones have been busted, but I have sprung them!” Mayor White told an audience at Boston Garden. Bet that got him a few votes, huh?

As a result of this scandalous bust, Richards was brought up on charges that included possession of various drugs and paraphernalia. His impressive stash reportedly consisted of grass, cannabis resin, Chinese heroin, mandrax tablets, burnt spoons, syringes and pipes.
Thanks to court records that were unsealed in 2011, the world found out he was also in possession of a loaded handgun, rifle and 110 rounds of ammunition. Richards claimed he was set up by police and that the handguns belonged to his tenant, and ultimately he was once again able to avoid further troubles.

Ron Wood & Keith Richards

The fact that Richards and Ron Wood and Keith Richards were arrested in Fordyce, Ark., is apparently legendary within the town.
After leaving lunch, Richards, who was driving an Impala, was pulled over for reckless driving. Officers thought they smelled marijuana on the pair and searched the car. Instead of finding pot, cops found less than two grams of cocaine in a briefcase supposedly belonging to passenger Fred Sessler. Richards passed the sobriety test, but was cited for carrying a hunting knife, which was considered an illegal weapon.

Keith Richards

It's the arrest that could have ended the Rolling Stones. Richards was detained in Canada In February 1977 after police found heroin in his hotel room. He was charged with "possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking," which, in Canada, can come with a prison sentence of seven years to life. His passport was confiscated and he was held in the country until April of the same year, when he was allowed to re-enter the United States on a medical visa for treatment for heroin addiction. Luckily for Richards, the charges were later dropped to the much simpler charge of possession. He pleaded guilty and was granted a suspended sentence.

Ron Wood

Thankfully, very few of the stories on this list involve any form of serious violence. However, on Dec. 2, 1990, Wood was arrested after an arguement with his girlfriend of the time. He was "cautioned" for common assault by police following the incident.

Theodora Richards (Daughter of Keith)

Looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, huh? In 2011, Richards' daughter Theodora was arrested in New York City and charged with making graffiti, possession of a graffiti instrument and possession of a controlled substance. Sources said the model had eight pills on her when she was arrested, and that she told cops she bought them from someone on the street. (Exactly what is the elder Richards allowed to do in terms of lectures here? Nothing, right?)

Mick Jagger celebrates 70th birthday in London and says Stones are on 'a break'

Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger celebrated his 70th birthday more than a week in advance by having a party at Loulou's club in London on July 14, 2013. Jagger turns 70 on July 26, 2013.
According to Socialite Life: "Along with Jagger’s beautiful daughters, some of our favorite Brits let loose at Jagger’s party. Ed Westwick wore red pants, a hoodie exposing his beastly, yet sexy, chest hair and if you look close enough there might be a visible bulge through those pants. Bradley Cooper's girl, Suki Waterhouse, looked like it was quite the night as her hair was all sorts of messy."
On July 11, 2013, Jagger and his longtime live-in girlfriend L'Wren Scott attended the private view of "The Suzy Menkes Collection: In My Fashion" at Christie's in London.
Meanwhile, Jagger says that the Rolling Stones are on hiatus now that they have completed their "50 and Counting" 2013 tour in the U.K. and North America. The North American/U.K. tour (which ran from May to July 2013) got mostly positive reviews, even though it didn't immediately sell out in North America. (Fans complained that the ticket prices were too high.) However, all of the tour's concerts in the U.K. sold out quickly. AEG Live was the promoter of the Rolling Stones' "50 and Counting" 2013 tour, which celebrated the band's 50th anniversary.
In a July 2013 interview with Pete Mitchell of Absolute Radio, Jagger commented about what's next for the Stones after the tour: "Maybe there'll be things beyond that, but right now this is the summer then we have a bit of a break ... I'm always writing new songs, so hopefully we'll do new songs one of these days soon."
There has been ongoing speculation that the Stones will do more concerts in 2013. It will continue to be speculation until an official announcement is made.

Keith Richards sleeps through Mick Jagger's birthday

by Bang Showbiz
Keith Richards slept through Sir Mick Jagger's 70th birthday party.
The Rolling Stones' guitarist was supposed to be celebrating his band mate's early birthday bash but dozed off prior to the event on Saturday night (13.07.13) after the rock group - also consisting of Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts - performed at London's Hyde Park for their 50th anniversary tour.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, a source said: ''Keith was knackered. He went back to his hotel suite with the intention of getting ready to go to the party.
''But when he got in, he ended up going for a snooze. By the time he woke up there was no point going as he'd missed most of the action.''
Despite a combined age of almost 277, the band mates are showing no signs of slowing down and are adamant their music will keep improving because they have a solid relationship.
Speaking previously, Keith said: ''We know we're damn good and we have some weird desire to make it better.
''Everyone's still here, which is obviously an important ingredient. With any band that has been around, even for a few years, not everybody likes everybody all the time.
''But maybe you have a need for that conversation to continue, and music is the one way you can do that. It's stronger than the other things that get in the way.''

The Rolling Stones round off 50th anniversary celebration

14 July 2013
The Rolling Stones rounded off their 50th anniversary celebrations by headlining the Barclaycard presents British Summertime Festival.
The legendary band were performing at London's Hyde Park last night (13.07.13) for the second time in two weeks in front of 65,000 fans as the heat soared.
Sir Mick Jagger wasn't put off by the warm weather, as energetic as ever wearing the same white jacket he wore for the group's iconic performance at the same venue in 1969.
Addressing the crowd - and the heat - he said: ''It's fantastic to see you all here on the hottest day of the year so far. Are you surviving? Good.''
The rockers - completed by Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts - were also joined by former guitarist Mick Taylor, who made his debut at the show 44 years ago.
Kicking the show off with 'Start Me Up', the legendary musicians showed no signs of aging as they powered through a high-energy set highlighted by the likes of 'Jumpin' Jack Flash', 'Brown Sugar' and 'It's Only Rock 'n' Roll'.
The fantastic performance was brought to an end with a strong encore of 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' and 'Satisfaction'.
The Barclaycard presents British Summertime Festival will be brought to a close today by Lionel Ritchie and Jennifer Lopez.

Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones Top 2013 Concert Earners List...

Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones Top 2013 Concert Earners List

Bon Jovi Bruce Springsteen Mick Jagger
In addition to barbecues, vacations and oppressive humidity, July always brings with it a spell of best-of-the-year-so-far lists. The newest one of interest to classic rock fans reveals that Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones have taken win, place and show in the list of the Top Grossing Concert Acts for the first half of 2013.
According to Pollstar (via ABC News Radio), rock veterans Bon Jovi are way ahead of the pack, grossing $142.1 million over the course of 60 concerts to date. Even without Richie Sambora, they’ve been able to bring in more than 25,000 fans a night at an average ticket price of $95.60.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have played 31 shows (so far) as the 2013 legs of their Wrecking Ball Tour brought them to Australia and Europe. But with an average attendance of 46,167 – the highest on Pollstar’s list – they’ve pulled in $103.9 million.
The Rolling Stones may have only played 18 dates, but the average ticket price of $346.09 allowed them to rake in $87.7 million for the “50 and Counting” tour. The gross of nearly $8 million per show was way above their competitors, with Barbra Streisand and Robbie Williams each bringing in slightly more than $5 million per night, but both acts played fewer than 10 dates.
Other classic rock acts in the Top 20 were Fleetwood Mac (No. 9, $58.1 million) and Paul McCartney (No. 16, $43.5 million). The rest of the Top 20 were filled up with country, Top 40 and Cirque de Soleil tours.

Rolling Stones perform last U.K. concert of 2013 at Hyde Park in London...

Rolling Stones perform last U.K. concert of 2013 at Hyde Park in London.

On July 13, 2013, the Rolling Stones returned to Hyde Park in London, exactly one week after they had played at Hyde Park for the first time since 1969. According to an announcement on the official Rolling Stones website, about 65,000 people attended the concert on July 13, 2013. It was the Stones' third and final show in the U.K. on their "50 and Counting" tour of 2013.
The Rolling Stones also performed at the Glastonbury Festival on June 29, 2013, and at Hyde Park on July 6, 2013. The Hyde Park concerts sold out the same day each concert went on sale. The Glastonbury Festival was sold out months before the Stones were announced as performers at the festival.
The Hyde Park concerts are the last concerts announced so far on the Rolling Stones' "50 and Counting" tour of 2013, but there is speculation that more tour dates will be announced.
The tour went to the U.S. and Canada in May and June 2013 before heading to England for the shows at the Glastonbury Festival and Hyde Park.
AEG Live is the promoter of the Rolling Stones' 2013 tour, which is named "50 and Counting" in honor of the band's 50th anniversary. Mick Taylor, who was the Rolling Stones' lead guitarist from 1969 to 1974, is a guest on all of the tour dates.
Taylor's first-ever live show with the Rolling Stones was a free concert at Hyde Park on July 5, 1969. The attendance at the show was an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 people. The show was filmed by Granada Television and released on home video under the title "Stones in the Park." The Stones' 1969 concert at Hyde Park was also a tribute to the late Brian Jones, who died on July 3, 1969, less than one month after he had been fired by the band. (Jones was found dead in his swimming pool, and his death was officially ruled an accidental drowning, but many people believe that Jones was the victim of murder or manslaughter.)
At every concert on the "50 and Counting" tour, Rolling Stones guitarist has been singing lead vocals on two of these three songs: "Happy," "You Got the Silver" and "Before They Make Me Run."
The Rolling Stones' "50 and Counting" tour has gotten mostly positive reviews from critics and fans. And even though some fans complained about the prices of the tour's concert tickets, the tour has played in venues that were packed to capacity.
Here is the set list of the Rolling Stones' performance at Hyde Park on July 13, 2013:
