Rolling Stones Make Glastonbury Debut, 50 Years After Their First Gig - Keith Says 'It Had To Be Done'

The Rolling Stones have finally made their debut outing on the Glastonbury stage, delighting an estimated 135,000 fans with their performance on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night.
Keith Richards said earlier this week, "It had to be done," and now it has.
Lead singer Mick Jagger told the audience, "After all these years they finally got round to asking us."

The band gave a well-received performance lasting more than two hours, which included hits from every decade of their 50-year career. Songs included 'Miss You, Start Me Up' and 'Brown Sugar'.
The band were joined on stage by a choir for 'You Can't Always Get What You Want', and by guitarist Mick Taylor, formerly with the band.

Fireworks heralded the finale of the history-making set, which concluded with a stomping version of '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'.
And Jagger invited members of the audience who hadn't seen the band before "to please come again".

Keith Richards Nervous About Weather for Glastonbury...

Keith Richards Nervous About Weather for Glastonbury

Forecast looks promising for the Rolling Stones' festival debut

Now that the Rolling Stones have wrapped up the U.S. portion of their "50 and Counting" tour, the rockers are headed to the Glastonbury Festival in England this weekend. But guitarist Keith Richards is a little nervous about the weather for the band's first appearance at the venerable U.K. festival.

"I think the only pressure we feel is that it is the first time we've done an outdoor show for yonks and English weather," Richards told the BBC, using a slang term for "a very long time." "Throwing in those two equations, yeah there is maybe a little apprehension." It has already rained today at the festival. Although rain has become a defining feature of the festival – in fact, it's already rained there today – the forecast calls for partly cloudy, and mostly dry, conditions Saturday when the Stones are scheduled to play.
Richards also shared some thoughts on the Rolling Stones finally making their first appearance at the massive U.K. festival, which began in 1970. "It just never occurred. Many times it has been on the list of tours and stuff and for one reason or another it never coincided . . . [It's] like a black hole in space or something but in we go this time" Richards said. "I'm looking forward to it because it is an iconic gig and it's an iconic band and finally the two meet at last. . . . In a way it's kind of weird that at last we've made it to Glastonbury. It's like building Stonehenge right?"

(Reuters) - The Rolling Stones released a career-spanning digitally re-mastered back catalogue on Apple Inc's iTunes Store on Wednesday as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations.
The new iTunes release chronicles the British group's entire oeuvre, from their introductory 1963 cover of Chuck Berry's "Come On" to last year's Greatest Hits collection "GRRR!", their record label Universal Music said on Wednesday.
The Rolling Stones - Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts - emerged alongside the Beatles in the early 1960s.
They became one of the most successful groups in rock and roll history with hits such as "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Sympathy for the Devil".
The new releases have been re-mastered exclusively for iTunes and will feature all the band's classic studio albums as well as live albums and compilations.
In addition, the complete catalogue is available in two parts on iTunes, spanning the periods 1963-1971 and 1971-2013.
The Stones kicked off their biggest tour in six years in Los Angeles last month after a sell-out mini-tour of Europe and the United States last year.
The veteran rockers are also set to headline Britain's biggest musical festival, Glastonbury, for the first time on June 29, and perform in London's Hyde Park for the first time since a tribute concert to founder member and guitarist Brian Jones 44 years ago, two days after his death.
"It seems like yesterday," Richards told the BBC in April. "It's going to be a great summer, man ... All the gigs we haven't done or wanted to redo are popping up."
They last went on the road for their "A Bigger Bang" tour from 2005 to 2007, playing 144 shows around the world and grossing more than $550 million, one of the world's most lucrative rock tours.
The Stones have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide and toured 40 times, mostly across Europe and North America in the 1960s and 1970s.
Live performances have emerged as the major money earner in the music business as record sales go digital, with growing numbers of veteran acts returning to the stage and attracting well-heeled, ageing fan

ROLLING STONES fans who didn’t get tickets to Glastonbury needn’t worry – this summer’s gigs won’t be their last.

They could be doing their 60th anniversary shows in 2022, according to KEEF RICHARDS, as long as none of them fall out with each other or pop their clogs.
Keith told Classic Rock magazine: “I’ve been hooked on everything once or twice in my life.
“But the one thing I can’t kick is playing with the Rolling Stones.
“The 60th, you know, that’s a little while away yet, but all these zeros keep zooming by... 30, 40, 50 years.
“I don’t see any reason why there shouldn’t be a 60th. Either that or we ‘croak’ on the job!”

Taylor Swift's best moment with Mick

Taylor Swift counts performing with The Rolling Stones as her ''best moment ever''.
The '22' singer appeared with the legendary band in Chicago earlier this month, performing 'As Tears Go By', and picked dancing with band leader Sir Mick Jagger as her personal highlight.
She told AccessHollywood.com: ''Mick and I did this twirl in the dressing room when we were rehearsing, because we just started sorta kinda like dancing around the room and frolicking and it was really fun. So we decided to incorporate that into the actual performance ... I really wanted to do the twirl - this one little twirl that we did - and that was pretty much the best moment ever.''
Taylor also praised the rest of the band - Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts - for being so welcoming when she rehearsed with them.
She added: ''The whole band, they're so welcoming and wonderful and approachable and all the things you would hope your heroes would be.
''It's wonderful getting that phone call. Like, 'Hey, would you like to go and play with The Rolling Stones?' That is a bold, underlined, exclamation point 'Yes'!''''
The Rolling Stones have invited a number of guest stars to appear with them since they started playing live again last year, including Mary J. Blige, Florence Welch, Brad Paisley, Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and Tom Waits.
